Around the kitchen table in the Rural Womyn Zone Chat Room

This Java based chat room is available for members of the Ruralwomyn Email List.

It is used for informal conversations and web based meetings for the advisory board. Instructions on connecting to the chat room are available on the list.

We call the chat room our virtual kitchen table. It is a safe space online free of harassment, intolerance and violence. Members using the chat room are responsible for being familiar with and abiding by the Rural Womyn Zone

Code of Conduct

The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to provide for a safe space online for women's conversations and meetings.

Off limits:

Harassment or intolerance on the basis of sex, sexual preference, race, ethnicity, age, ability, privilege, class, and other forms of bias; sex talk, flirting, pick-up invitations; violence and threats of violence.

Individual chat participant responsibilities:

Respect the purpose of the service and contribute, rather than detract from it.

Educate yourself about the sensibilities of the group.

Be responsible for what you say and how you say it.

Confine debate to principles, not personalities.

Protect your privacy. Do not share personal information that you would not want passed along to others.

Protect the privacy of others. Do not share personal information provided by others in the chat room. Personal information gathered in the room is prohibited from being discussed outside the room without the express permission of the person making the disclosure.

Do start one on one contact with another chatter without asking first. If you don't get permission, stop.

Report any unwanted contact or other problems to the Ruralwomyn List administrators.

Address complaints to administration and not to other chatters.
