Once
upon a time
there was a community
of women who lived in many rural and remote places.
They had never met
each other, but became very good friends. They shared their lives
through email messages, a chat room and a web
site. They called this "sitting around the virtual kitchen table."
And they called their ideal virtual rural community Towanda.
As life goes, from
time to time, women in this community would experience loss and grief,
troubled times, challenges or weariness and worry.
At those times, the
group of friends, who couldn't go to each other's homes to share a cup
of soothing tea, freshly baked bread, a listening ear and a shoulder to
lean on, began the tradition of sharing a Virtual Yellow Towanda Quilt
as a way of caring for each other. Soon the phrase, "I send you
the Yellow Towanda Quilt" was full of meaning across the distances.
This is the extraordinary
story of how the Virtual Yellow Towanda Quilt became a reality.
"This
quilt was made by someone who had wonderful spirit and healing powers.
It was meant for those of us who may never meet in person....but are oh,
so connected in spirit, just as we are connected to her." -Katherina
"I think this
is the most wonderful story of magic. It's alive. Please add this
to the website. The story is incredible. You wimmin touch my heart
soul and spirit everyday." - Cynthia
"I love that yellow
quilt and I've never even touched it."
-Wanda
