Rural Grassroots Feminist Organizing Scrapbook, Page 5

The Board Chairperson has mysteriously disappeared from the center for a month. Before she left, she dropped hints that she would be off on an Outward Bound-type of outdoor survival training which  would help her gain confidence in herself as an independent woman.  It's being whispered around the smoking lounge that she's helping husband Harley put up silage.

It isn't easy being married to a rural feminist. In addition to getting a lot of ribbing at the coffee shop, the men have to help lug all the equipment  around for the home made ice cream fundraiser on Main Street Sidewalk Sale Day. While the women are in the house having an emergency meeting to plan the next funding event, the guys pretend to have fun together by taking a  little spin on the 12-wheeler. As Earl hastily makes the sign of the cross, Harold turns his back on the boys and weeps.
